FAQ

Comfort Kids are 100% handmade dolls designed to be huggable and cute. They are made to be unique and contemporary for kids to hug, play with, and be comforted.

Comfort Kids go to children who are abruptly taken from their homes for health and safety reasons. The children may be unable to bring anything with them because of bed bugs or hygienic issues, and this transition to a new home can be scary. Comfort Kids seek to help ease this transition and bring hope to the children while they adjust to their new home.

Comfort Kids are made of sturdy cotton-blend fabrics and anti-allergenic polyfiber fill (we like to use Poly-Fil® Original/Premium Polyester Fiber Fill as doll-specific fills can be crunchy and not as huggable.)

It is essential that the fabrics are free from possible allergens, such as pet hair or strong scents, and are clean and free from pests.

Comfort Kids are given to kids of all ages, so please avoid choking hazards such as buttons. These dolls should also be washable, and we request that paint and makeup are not used on the dolls.

Have fun and be creative! All of the dolls should be a little unique and made with a lot of love. Some recommendations are to keep them contemporary and to avoid Raggedy-Ann or antique styles (this is a request from the co-creator Cynthia Bozarth as she admits some dolls scare her). Keeping the dolls cute and a little contemporary ensures that young children can enjoy the dolls more!

Comfort Kids are made to be more than just toys or dolls, but also as helpful psychological and comforting tools. These dolls are made to look like the child receiving it, and unlike many dolls, they are stuffed with a lot of stuffing for a soft firm body to cling to in times of stress.

You do not need to know how to sew in order to get involved in the doll ministry. Although we definitely need people who have sewing machines to help with making dolls and clothes, and others who know how to hand-sew and embroider for stitching the dolls together and giving them faces, all skill levels can join us on our Stuffing Parties to stuff the dolls.

Yes we do! Please ensure that all fabric and materials are clean and unused. If you would like to donate polyfill, we use Poly-Fil® Original/Premium Polyester Fiber Fill (not the doll-specific kind). Contact Julia Bozarth here for more information.
